Abstract: In the context of rapid digitalization and the expansion of social media, livelihood reporting faces rumor diffusion, entertainment-oriented expression, weakened professional depth, and limited channels for public participation. From the perspective of the mass line, these problems are closely related to whether journalism can remain connected to the people, respond to real social needs, and sustain effective communication between media and the public.
This paper reviews the origins and modern interpretation of the mass line, introduces a resource-dependence framework, and discusses the transformation of journalists through policy analysis and case comparison. It argues that journalists in livelihood reporting should combine rigorous verification, issue sensitivity, public interaction, social coordination, and emotional communication. In the new media era, only by integrating technological innovation with a people-centered value orientation can livelihood reporting strengthen credibility and better fulfill its social responsibility.
