Abstract:The film Better Days has gained significant attention since its release. Its success not only lies in the captivating story, but also on the unique design of its poster. On the theoretical basis of Kress and van Leeuwen’s grammar framework of visual image analysis, this paper conducts a multimodal discourse analysis of the film poster of Better Days. The result demonstrates that the film poster constructs characters’ identities through representational, interactive and compositional meanings.
